Bill and Ivy Bray are planning a Great Commission Victory rally or similar event somewhere near you during the year ahead. Call 434-229-6488 to find the locations and dates of the nearest event to you.
On March 7, he held a Great Commission Victory Dinner for supporters of the Brays, OSM and CIS in Charlottesville. It was the first of 10 Victory Rally “events” this year to publicly mark a new beginning for Overseas Students Mission. Bill Bray has just completed his first year of service as president of OSM.
He called the first rally, hosted by the Korean Church in Charlottesville, an “historic occasion” that signals a new era for mission.
“Ivy and I believe that God is leading us as an agency to be part of a huge new missionary thrust, starting in 2010, to reach all nations before Christ returns,” said Bray.
The Victory Rallies are the first step toward a proposed global “Decade of the International Student” emphasis expected to run from 2010 to 2020. The ten-year effort is planned to help unite a new wave of support for the thousands of international students who will be needed to complete the prophecy of the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 24:14.
“Our Lord revealed a global plan, that the Gospel of the Kingdom would be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations and only then would the end come,” says Bray. “This is, in fact, the primary reason why OSM exists.”
OSM was a pioneer outreach to international students started by Dr. Bob Finley in 1953 – and it has since given birth to three generations of indigenous mission leaders on every continent. Bray has been tasked by the Executive Board of OSM to reorganize the mission for the 21st Century. The goal is to better serve the next generation of Christian students who are now ready or nearly ready to return home to reach lost nations.
OSM Victory Rallies or “Victory Events” are tentatively planned this year for Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Grand Rapids, Los Angeles, Orlando, Richmond (Williamsburg), San Diego and Washington.
“The rallies have a clear goal, to re-establish the base of support for OSM in order to accomplish the task set before us. This is our faith investment in the future,” says Bray.
As a result of the Victory Rallies and other events, Bray said that OSM is hoping to find: (1) 300 new Faith Partners who will pledge $30 or more each month, (2) 10 supporting churches which will include the work in their missions budgets, and (3) seven advisory board members who will make a commitment of $25,000 a year to help the mission begin the new, decade-long thrust to uncover a new generation of indigenous missionary leaders.
Bray said the Victory Rally effort is part of a plan to: (1) work with Christian student leaders and mentors on 900 university, Bible school and seminary campuses, (2) link with 1800 local churches with student ministries, (3) locate 300,000 “Friendship Family Hosts,” and (4) recruit 3600 advisory board members from marketplace ministries and business leaders.
