Campbell’s Complete Record Year of USA Outreach

By Bill Bray

VIRGINIA -- In their sixth year of evangelistic ministry, Howie and Debbie Campbell left the comforts of a country home in Charlottesville and moved out in faith on their longest musical mission ever. Their unique, full-time public ministry is an approved project of CIS, Inc. and uses music and the spoken word to present the gospel in public places.

On their longest tour, they traveled for nearly 150 days straight in their hard working Gospel Van. The van was recently totaled in an accident while returning from their Christmas tour. A campaign has been launched to raise the funds to purchase and furnish a replacement.

The Campbell’s are looking for local churches to sponsor community outreaches in 2009. For information on how to book them, call the Campbell’s at 434-825-9426 or 825-1359.

In 2008, the Campbell’s worked with the whole Body of Christ in 15 states and performed at over 70 events. Many took place in street and park settings, coffee houses, city rescue missions, and at community events or county fairs. They also routinely minister in prisons, youth detention facilities, senior adult centers and retirement homes. Most of these venues are secularized – and the Campbell’s are able to present the Gospel through music to audiences that are otherwise cut off from a loving Christian witness.

“This was a year with many new milestones in our ministry,” says Howie. “It represented a huge act of faith. It was a huge blessing to partner with CIS and have the financial and prayer support of so many friends.”

In the final quarter of 2008, Howie recorded a beautiful new CD called “The Good News of Christmas” based on the Advent traditions of their own family and home. Through it, the true message of Christmas unfolded to many audiences and over 800 copies were distributed by supporters to family and friends during the 12 days of Christmas!

"We learned a lot from this,” says Howie, “and look forward to Christmas becoming one of the most productive times of outreach for us in years to come."

In 2008, the Campbell’s did a Christmas Concert Tour in the winter storms of New York and Vermont – often driving through snow and frigid weather to take the message of Christmas where few missionaries are able to go.

“We praise the Lord that He opened up not only Christian venues,” says Howie, “but secular as well – community centers, a public school, assisted living centers and Raybrook Prison, New York.
