JOINING the half-night of prayer with George Verwer and the OM Special Projects Team here has evoked a rush of memories of how we prayed and tapped into the heart of God over four decades ago. The way we prayed back then was based on yielding to the Lord and letting the Holy Spirit lead us into intercession for the things most on His heart. As we did so, we would pray in bursts of faith as the Lord empowered us, asking for miracle breakthroughs in particular areas. This kind of prayer normally took several hours, although in emergencies, we also prayed this way spontaneously.
Most of the early decisions in my missionary career were made this way, not as deliberations, but as commands of the Spirit. Now, looking back, I see that these were the very same impossible prayer requests that have since been fulfilled?things like by adolescent decisions to go to India, to seek a faithful man there, to pioneer Rajasthan and start a media development ministry.
We had one of these "breakthrough prayer sessions" Tuesday night as we linked our faith with the local team in asking God to lift them out of a holding pattern. As George Verwer led us in prayer, others joined in, each one asking more specifically for additional staff, finances, new relationships, and doors to open. It was like writing a PERT planning chart in faith rather than on paper.
It has been years since I?m prayed this way. Yet, this is exactly how the OM movement began back in our student dorms at Moody. Late in the evening, usually after we had already "pray-read" many letters or heard reports and interceded in small groups for 2-3 hours, the leader would get up and announce some of the greatest challenges facing the ministry at that time.
This is a kind of creative, dynamic prayer that seems so far away from the way we intercede so often today. I want to learn to pray and practice this kind of prayer again. Had I kept praying this way through the years, I can?t imagine the additional miracles we would have seen.

Open doors with OM and others to mobilize a new generation?connect us with the next crop of George Verwers who will lead the way into the new century. AMEN
Bill?s Blog for Wednesday, May 9, 2007
MY posts about Post Christian Europe and the UK have been a bit darker than I actually feel! Not that things here aren?t even worse than I thought they would be, they are in some ways as most local leaders will be quick to lament.
However there are many bright lights on the British and London horizon. Out of their years of "minority status" here, British evangelicals have found many ways to network and create positive responses far more effectively than we have in the USA.
God still answers prayer. He still loves the people of Britain, and he will answer our prayers if we call upon him to lift this people out of their darkness, decline and despair. God wants to raise up a new generation of leaders?people like:
- ...PASTOR SIMON JONES and some of the other pastors and members of the leadership team I met on Sunday at Bromley Baptist Church in west Kent. Here is a church that seems to be rolling with the waves of "Post Christian" cultural changes in their community?reaching out daily with cross-cultural, holistic ministries that are inclusive of believers, "seekers" and their "non-seeking" neighbors. One of these is through their vibrant international fellowship. When I first came to England back in the 1960?s, Bromley was an all-white, very Christian Anglo suburb featuring single family homes with well-kept lawns. Today it has transformed itself into mostly multi-family housing. It has both declined and gentrified. The population looks like the United Nations. Hard to realize that there are over 300 languages spoken here with even more people groups.
- ...PASTOR RANDY LAWLER of the Trinity Center in the South Asian and Caribbean ghetto of North London is another beacon of light that God has raised up. We feel we have connected with the mother lode of help in this ministry. They are in the streets, planting churches and carrying on a host of ministries to minorities here, many too sensitive to mention.
- ...LONDON CITY MISSION, GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER, and a host of united community missions are flourishing here.
Meanwhile, I feel that God is calling Christians around to world to be faithful to mobilize prayer, send short term teams, and to obey and engage another generation here. This is my message of hope to the troops in the trenches here. We have to encourage them without patronizing and realize that these great gateway cities like London, Bangkok, and Bombay are not going to be reached unless Christians around the globe make special sacrifices to pray and support outreach here.

IVY is reading ?Millstone and Stumbling Blocks? by Bradley Heath as our study book for the week. It is a radical critique on government controlled ?secularized? education in the USA. This is one of those prophetic, pioneering books written by a man of faith who has gone way out to the very edge of the cliff for Christ. It is good to see that there are still some prophets around. Without this kind of vision, the American people will perish. American democracy cannot survive without a strong faith community. Not everyone must be a Christian, but Christians must be tolerated and God will bless a country that provides for their religious freedom and safety.

30 Second Pause for Prayer from Bill and Ivy Bray...
COUNSELOR, guide George Verwer and the Brays as they begin four days of meetings and discussions today at OM in Bromley, Kent. May God show us many ways to work through OM and STL all over Europe and the Muslim world. AMEN and AMEN
Bill?s Blog for Monday, May 7, 2007
GOD is giving us opportunities to have many natural conversations with new friends, acquaintances and neighbors. Out of the small talk of life, we must be able to discuss faith issues and hopefully Christ?s claim on our lives and souls.
Although this is the primary way, the British are reminding me of other ways to live lifestyle evangelism by praying before meals, carrying Bibles, and even wearing religious symbols occasionally. Above all, it is obvious that the primary way to reach most people here is still by living lifestyles of love and through acts of kindness, and then always being ready to answer questions when God gives the opportunity.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS PART II: Along with 700 mosques which serve as outreach centers for Islam and 1,200 Qur?anic Muslim private schools here, nearly every university in London has an active Islamic society openly propagating Islam. More than one million of 11 million residents are Muslims and many are Muslim missionaries. Everywhere you go you see Muslims, including some British girls who have donned headscarves and veils against the immodest excesses of western ?Christian? culture. Muslim women are models of motherhood and respect, raising obedient children and submitting happily to their husbands. Why is it that the enemies of the cross are so often more fervently zealous in their religious practices than us? Where are the joyful, loving Christians?the saints here who are overcoming the world and offering a light to those in the darkness of post-Christian Europe? England needs an awakening. Where are the praying believers seeking a fresh move of God?s spirit here?
May 5, 2007 - Post-modern means post-Christian in UK

MIGHTY GOD, guide the board of directors and leadership planning meetings today in Sussex and all this weekend as they are led by missionaries Ron and Nancy George at World In Need. Pray for Bill and Ivy as they travel to Kent and the London area to start meetings. AMEN
Bill?s Blog for Saturday, May 5, 2007
FIRST IMPRESSIONS PART I: London is not only the Islamic capital of Europe, it is also the global center of Muslim Shi?ite missions to the world and of evangelical Christian missions to the Muslim nations of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Will the sword of Islam or the love of Jesus Christ prevail?
Meanwhile, the atmosphere is profoundly post-Christian?and definitely anti-Christian in spirit. Why do we call this apostasy and backsliding "post-modernism" when we really mean "post Christian"?
I hope I am proved wrong, but most British Christians seem apologetic and secretive about their faith. Many churches are being turned into bars, nightclubs, and mosques. Pagan May Pole and Spring Festival celebrations this week are featuring representations of pre-Christian fertility rites. Some are going backwards into superstition and ignorance, not forward into scientific reason as they think. Like computer and psychic games, these festivals are more real than most people realize. The occult and spirit world should never be considered harmless fun.
Misguided "speech nannies" and secular media barons forbid Christian radio and TV broadcasts here as "hate speech." Meanwhile, they run a steady stream of anti-Christian programming and filth on their own channels. Upon our arrival we were assaulted on the first day with smug news taglines blazing reports of the sentencing to jail of a choirmaster for homosexual pedophilia. On the "telly" a crude made-for-TV drama featured the expose of an ignorant and hypocritical Christian fundamentalist trying to start a Christian school to oppose evolution while carrying on an extramarital affair - the storyline mocked evangelical piety, prayer and witness while portraying the secularist school teachers as sincere defenders of a balanced education seeking only the welfare of the innocent school children. It was very unsophisticated propaganda against Christians. One only hopes that the children watching it are not as foolish and gullible as the producers who created it.
President Bush and the war in Iraq are popularly viewed here as an evangelical Christian crusade against Islam?even in the churches. Christians are being seriously mis-represented in mass communications and even in the faith communities.
Of course, London is not the only great world capital where the light of the gospel is shinning dimly today. May it not go out here, or anywhere.
Where, Lord, are your prophets for England today? Have mercy on the British Isles.

WOKE up an alpha-man today, I am taking charge and full of faith and trust in God. The Lord will provide and must provide for we are his children and the sheep of his pasture. We?ve landed on the ground, and are now in spiritual combat on this mission field, and the Lord will never let us down. I am still unsure of where the money is coming from or what will happen next. Things may not happen the way I plan, but the Lord will not fail. He may not provide the way I dictate or plan but he will always provide. Circumstances change but Jesus never. Glory to his Name!
