30 Second Pause for Prayer from Bill and Ivy Bray...
MESSIAH, we thank you for your promises to send the streams of God to provide your people with grain! What a wonderful God you are and how gladly we look up to you to provide for our needs and the needs of your people and the work of your Kingdom even when we go through times of drought. AMEN
GOVERNOR, prosper all our donors both small and great this month and this very week. Enable them to be generous as our letters of appeal arrive in their homes and businesses. We look to you to "crown the year with your bounty" so that your people might shout for joy and sing this month. VERSE OF THE WEEK: "You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance" (Psalm 65:11).
BILL'S BLOG, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4: This morning as Ivy and I prayed here in New Bern, NC we were actually overlooking a drought-stricken tidal basin behind our cabin. The lack of water before our eyes and the havoc it was creating for the creatures in the waters below contrasted with the promises of God in our readings for today in Psalm 65 and Deuteronomy 28:12-14. In these passages, the Lord is portrayed as one providing abundance and streams of living water to his faithful people. How important it is that we obey his commands but also how comforting it is to know that as we obey, he has promised to bless us with everything we need to survive in this world. So this month, we go forth bearing precious seed. We are planting it by faith in the soil of God's work, expecting a harvest. Sometimes, we feel like those floundering fish, hungry birds and other creatures that depend on the rivers of God to survive the droughts that come in our lives and families and ministries. How comforting to cling to the promises of God in these times and know that he has promised to send streams of blessing our way.
