Mr. Obama: “No, We Can’t, Can’t, Can’t!”

By Bill Bray

LIKE millions upon millions of Christians around the world, my prayers and best wishes go out to Barak Obama as he assumes the governing authority to lead the United States during these troubled times.

He is full of faith and vision. I want him to succeed. He has the resources and support of the richest economy, most influential mass media, and strongest military. He has been elected president of a land most of the world believes to be a Christian nation—at least nominally. However, I am afraid he and some of his followers are flirting with a fatal attraction.

From the beginning of his campaign for the White House, his most popular campaign theme song has been the 70’s disco anthem, “Yes, We Can, Can, Can.” It is an appropriate hymn for many of his supporters in the Democratic Party, which sometimes appear to be little more than a coalition of secular humanists. Most sincerely believe man can do anything he puts his mind to and that government can solve any problem as long as God is set aside and they are allowed to lead without any input from that pesky book, The Bible.

This bunch sounds very much like the decedents of Noah who determined to make a name for themselves and therefore set out to build a tower to heaven in ancient Babel (Genesis 10). “Anything is possible in America,” Mr. Obama panders to this adoring crowd in his stump speeches, promising them more and better government – the formula that will make it happen. (No wonder Islamic Jihad is sharpening their swords to finish us off!)

The danger here is that we will believe these campaign promises at a time when there is no sign that God’s hand of judgment has been removed from the unrepentant United States.

My prayer for President Obama and for all of us is that we will fall on our faces before the Almighty in repentance for this attitude. We must confess our sins and turn away from our proud anti-family behaviors, immoral lifestyles, murderous ways and rebellious hearts. We must not just turn away from sin but move over to a pro-active righteousness.

Our fate is not in the hands of our president, our military, or our economy. Every day we live is a gift from the one and only, true and living God of Abraham and his Anointed One, the Lord of Hosts. He will soon return to reign and rule.

So Mr. Obama and supporters, please change your tune. The song we need to be singing on our knees is not “Yes, We Can, Can, Can” but “Without God, We Can’t, Can’t, Can’t.”
